Where do I start?
By adding the gear you already own. As you create each item, Smart Add will propose the compatible accessories, so a good part of the inventory fills itself in. From there you can build your first backpack and plan an outing.
Is there a tutorial?
The app includes contextual tutorials: each feature explains itself the first time you reach it, with no separate manual to read.
Which iOS version do I need?
PhotoArsenal requires iOS 18 or later and is available for iPhone.
Frequently asked questions
Does PhotoArsenal work offline?
Yes, for the essentials. Your inventory and the catalog are read locally. Specific features such as a stage weather forecast or catalog sync do need a connection.
Is my data in the cloud?
No. PhotoArsenal doesn't upload your catalog to any server. Your data stays only on your iPhone. You can back up manually by exporting your catalog whenever you want.
How do I back up my data?
From Settings → Backup → Export catalog. You'll get a file you can save wherever you prefer (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, email, etc.). To restore, use Import catalog.
Does it work with gear that isn't in the catalog?
Yes. The catalog covers thousands of real products, but you can add any custom item even if it isn't listed.
How do compatibility checks work?
ArsenalGuard knows the mounts, batteries, cards and accessories of every catalog item, and warns you when something doesn't fit a specific body or requires an adapter.
ShotCard doesn't recognise my gear, why?
ShotCard identifies gear from the photo's EXIF metadata. If the image has lost its EXIF (for example after going through a messaging app or certain edits), there's nothing to read. Try the original file.
The weather forecast isn't showing for a stage
The forecast requires the stage to have a location set and the device to be online. Bear in mind too that forecasts are only available for near-term dates; for dates further out the app shows the historical climate data for the destination.
Can I track rented or borrowed gear?
Yes. Each item can be flagged as owned, rented or lent out, with its corresponding dates.
Is there an Android or iPad version?
Currently PhotoArsenal is only available for iPhone. There's no scheduled date for other platforms.
I found a bug, what should I do?
Email us at support@photoarsenalapp.com with a description of what happened, steps to reproduce, and if possible a screenshot. Reported bugs are fixed with priority.
A product is missing from the catalog, can you add it?
Yes, and telling us helps a lot. Send us the exact brand and model and we'll include it in an upcoming catalog update.
Can I suggest new features?
Absolutely. PhotoArsenal grows thanks to community ideas. Send your suggestions to the same support email.
